Polyurea coating – best protection for the harshest environments

Polyurea coating has been on the market in Vietnam for nearly 20 years with its durability, high physical properties and versatility providing many practical applications for the most demanding requirements. Polyurea coatings are currently used in industries for waterproofing, anti-corrosion, water-repellent and toxic substances. Polyurea coatings are also versatile when using the right substrates; It can be applied on concrete, metal, wood, plaster, plastic and many others.

The meaning of polyurea and what makes the polyurea coating so great

Polyurea is the result of a reaction between isocyanate and a resin mixture; reacts polyurea to form a plastic or rubber-like compound. These elastomers can be used in the same ways as other macronutrients such as polyurethane and epoxy, but the protective polyurea coating offers the best of both worlds this cover. Polyurea coatings are used for everything from mining equipment and pipe coatings to waterproofing tank linings, waterproof covers, and more.

In this article, we will guide you through the benefits and benefits of polyurea coatings, as well as help you find the supplier and application of polyurea coatings for your project in Vietnam.

How does polyurea compare to other coatings

Why do you choose polyurea coating over the more traditional plastic coating? While other coatings have their own benefits, polyureas outperform them in certain areas.

  • Polyurea & Epoxy:

Epoxy is sensitive to temperature, humidity and humidity during application, with a longer curing time than polyurea. The epoxy coating is not flexible with the expansion of the substrate and the ultraviolet radiation will make it discolored, unlike polyurea which means polyurea is more suitable for outdoors than epoxy. Epoxy does not have high elasticity, so when applied to industrial floors, it is often not strong or continuous impact.

  • Polyurea & Polyurethane :
Although these coatings are related (both based on isocyanate), they have many differences. When applied, polyurethane coatings are sensitive to temperature and humidity, while polyurea coatings are not. Polyurea has a higher elasticity and a greater tensile strength than polyurethane.
  • Polyurea & cement original :
Cement based coatings provide less effect and much longer setting times than polyurea paints. All coating cement bases have long freezing and curing time, usually within 24 hours.

In a nutshell, choose polyurea when needed to avoid or minimize downtime, as well as when the application environment has a lot of humidity or is associated with extreme temperatures. Polyurea is also more suitable when you need a flexible coating with substrate expansion or want an extremely hard layer with abrasion resistance.

5 reasons to choose polyurea coating

Polyurea is a coating of choice for commercial, industrial, marine and civil applications because it has many advantages over alternatives. The alternatives also have some of these advantages, but the polyurea comes all in one coating. Including:

  1. Durable: Polyurea coatings provide resistance to chemicals, abrasion and ultraviolet rays, as well as being able to withstand extreme temperature changes.
  2. Fast construction and quick recovery: Curing time of seconds or minutes means almost instant recovery time and many times less downtime than other paints.
  3. 100% solids: With a 1: 1 volume ratio, eliminates the need for additional coatings and the lack of solvents means it is also VOC free and environmentally friendly.
  4. Strength and flexibility:  Polyurea has a high polymer elongation which means it elongates as well as resists puncture and tear.
  5. Waterproof and anti-corrosion:  Waterproof and anti-corrosion: The polyurea coating is resistant to moisture / moisture. They are waterproof, protect against corrosion. Hence, they are also used as tank liners and filling inner coating of polyurea pipes polyurea .

Application of roller and spray paint Polyurea

Pure polyurea coating can only be applied with a special multi-component spray gun.

Traditionally, polyurea coating is applied with a spray gun. “Hotspray” is another name for this polyurea spraying process, as polyurea coatings are most effective when heated to 60-70°C. The polyurea reaction to the coating is instant and the polyurea paint begins to harden in about 10 seconds. Therefore, to achieve the required heat and speed, two components are pumped into a special spray gun through heated tubes. The ingredients mix in the gun chamber where the reaction begins, the mixture is then sprayed immediately onto the surface. This ensures the best performance from the coatings and the strongest physical properties. Hotspray polyurea coatings are a precision business and should be applied by professionally trained applicators.

What if hot spray polyurea cannot be used?

Pure polyurea cannot be applied in any way other than spray; however, sometimes the roller application is more convenient. In such cases, polyurea paint can be modified to change its behavior when applied. These modified polyurea coatings are more known as cold or polyaspartic polyurea coatings. They are popular as floor coatings due to their versatility and their ability to add anti-slip aggregates to make them safer to travel.

Find a polyurea coating supplier in Vietnam

By investing in polyurea, you save money during low downtime and return service losses, the life of the coating (durability up to 30 years) and application speed. However, the polyurea price is higher than that of the epoxy or polyurethane coating.

There are not many polyurea suppliers operating in Vietnam. If you would like more information, or want to be connected with a professional construction and solution provider, contact us! Our experts are here to help.
